Locals

Well, here we are. We have officially been in Bend Oregon for 2 weeks and it seems strange to be in one spot for more than just a handful of days. At day 5 of our stay, I turned to Brenda and said “doesn't it seem like it's time for us to pack up and move on?” She had the same feeling as me. We have been so used to seeing the sites of a particular area and then moving on to the next spot that we just felt a little bit off. But since we already booked a month at the RV park, we purchased our ski passes, and I had been growing out my beard so I could look like an official ski bum, we had to power through the 5 day itch.

Now that we are 2 weeks into our stay and we have had some time to explore the area, we are starting to feel like locals. I have a feeling that it may end up being hard for us to leave when our time is up. Bend is a pretty great place to spend some time...especially if you love the great outdoors like we do. There is the obvious draw of skiing at Mt. Bachelor, there is world class rock climbing at Smith Rocks, there is fishing and paddle boarding on the Deschutes River, more hiking and biking trails than you can shake a stick at, and some of the best mountaineering peaks to be had in the States...and it's all within 30 minutes of our little home-on-wheels' doorstep. Incredible.

One of the other great things about being in Bend is that we are more accessible to friends. We are close enough to Seattle that it's a lot easier for friends to come and visit us. We have had some good friends couch surf at our home-on-wheels and it's been great to be able to share a little bit of our lifestyle with people that we love. A little bit of adventure and exploring seems to be good for just about everyone. The sad part is that these friends always have to leave us and go back to the dreaded “W” word (work). Bummer.

Well, that's about it. Nothing super exciting to report. We have a handful of days of skiing under our belt, we have done a little bit of rock climbing, we have we have eaten at some pretty great restaurants, and we have hung out with friends. It seems that we are busier here than we have ever been before. Our typical routine of hardcore exploring and adventuring is back on track but now we have the added benefit of squeezing in time with friends for social hour. In a nutshell, we are still having an incredible time doing the things that fit us just right.

Snow day with Eric, Anne, and their little man Bjorn...and that's Brenda feeding a little birdy my lunch.

As you can see, Lief doesn't have a fear of heights.
